Quality time spent at The Children’s Museum of NH

with-binocularsI recently enjoyed a morning visit to The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire in Dover with my youngest son. Mornings are the best time to go since they fill up quickly with school groups and young children with their moms.

In 2008, the Museum relocated from Portsmouth to a larger facility in Dover. They have added several new exhibits, including the yellow submarine, build it – fly it, an expanded restaurant/cafe and post office play area, the cochecosystem (my favorite) and much more.

My youngest son and I were entertained for hours. It was so nice to be able to spend this brunch-at-the-cafequality time learning and sharing with him. We shared a balanced “meal” at the cafe, delivered mail throughout the facility, learned about the Cocheco River, dug for dinosaur fossils, watched videos about sea life and explored every inch of the Museum.

The Children’s Museum of NH is open Tuesday – Saturday 10 am – 5 pm and Sunday 12 – 5 pm(Open Mondays 10 am – 5 pm only during summer, school vacations and selected holidays.)Click on their calendar for the most current schedule.

Admission is $7 – adults & children over 1 year of age; $6 – seniors age 60+. No charge for museum members and children under age 1. Visit your local library to see if they have passes. The Barrington Library offers passes that reduce your admission price to only $2.00 each.

mail-carrierThe first Friday of every month from 5:30 – 8:00pm, the Museum hosts a free Family Fun Night. The next one is May 1st. They also offer summer camp programs for all ages, including Mini Camp, Summer Fun Week and Science Week.

The museum is located in Dover on the Cocheco River. After visiting the museum, you can enjoy a picnic on the banks of the river and the kids can get exercise on the playground next to the parking lot.
